Qristina Bachand

Qristina Bachand is quickly carving out a name for herself in the fiddle world as a solid & versatile fiddler. Her expressive style is smooth & clean yet rooted in tradition. She has been featured at numerous concert venues, folk clubs and festivals across Canada. Whether performing solo or accompanied on guitar by her brother Quinn, Qristina consistently delivers a spirited performance that features her enthusiasm and love of Celtic music.

Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Qristina comes from a family with a strong musical heritage that has deep roots in France and Northern Spain. Qristina began her musical journey with classical violin lessons at the age of 7. She soon took an interest in folk fiddle and although she is mostly a self-taught fiddler, Qristina’s energetic fiddling reflects the wide variety of coaches with whom she has studied including Daniel Lapp, Calvin Cairns, Ivonne Hernandez, Jaime R-T, Gerry O’Connor, Brian Conway, Glenn Graham, Erynn Marshall, Shannon McDade-Johnson, Bruce Molskey, Troy MacGillivray & Paul Anderson.

Qristina has twice received the Victoria Fiddle Society’s “Fiddler to Fiddler Award”. She has also received various awards & trophies for her fiddling at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival. Qristina has been awarded full scholarships to attend the Ceili Irish Music & Dance Program at Harrison Hot Springs, the Saltspring Island Fiddle Camp and the Gaelic College in Cape Breton.

Qristina has performed in British Columbia at festivals such as Nanaimo’s Maple Sugar Festival, the Saanich Fall Fair, the Cowichan Exhibition and the Vancouver International Children’s Festival. She has performed in Cape Breton at venues such as “The Barn”, the Port Hawkesbury Ceilidh, the Inverness Ceilidh, the Cape Breton Festival of Fiddling & The (Rankin Family owned) Red Shoe Pub. Qristina & Quinn were recently one of only 5 featured artists from across Canada invited to perform at a national arts event held in Toronto.

Many more performances are scheduled for Qristina and Quinn in the months ahead including the Vancouver CelticFest in March and the Vancouver Island Folk Music Festival in July. Qristina and Quinn are especially excited about the release of their debut CD in 2008.
