Qristina & Quinn Bachand

Wow! What a weekend!   We're still coming down from all the excitement of Quinn accompanying Ashley MacIsaac at this year's Vancouver Celticfest.  And to top it off,  Ashley asked Qristina on stage to play a couple of sets with Quinn and then back for the finale.  Here are a couple of photos we thought you might like plus the link to the first video of the show we've posted on Youtube.  We'll be posting more in the following days, so be sure to check out our Youtube channel regularly (www.youtube.com/thebachands) .

This young brother and sister duo have been receiving rave reviews from audiences all the way from Vancouver Island to Cape Breton Island and from as far away as Scotland, Ireland and Spain!

Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Canada, Qristina and Quinn come from a family with a strong musical heritage that has deep roots in France and Northern Spain. Individually, they are exceptional instrumentalists, combined, their spirit of spontaneous fun emerges and the jigs, reels & fiddle tunes heat up! Qristina and Quinn consistently deliver a spirited performance that features their enthusiasm and love of Celtic music.

Qristina Bachand is quickly carving out a name for herself in the fiddle world as a solid and versatile fiddler. Her expressive style is smooth and clean yet rooted in tradition. She has been featured at numerous concert venues, folk clubs and festivals across Canada. Although she is mostly a self-taught fiddler, Qristina's energetic fiddling reflects the wide variety of international coaches with whom she has studied. At the young age of 18, Qristina is brimming with fresh energy and musicality!

Incredibly talented and blessed with an acute ear and an intense sense of rhythm 12 year old Quinn Bachand is rapidly establishing himself as a gifted guitar accompanist. Quinn has the unique ability to bring out the best in each tune. A focused and powerful player, he is a well rounded and versatile musician, as comfortable playing Celtic guitar as he is playing Gypsy Jazz, folk fiddle or picking a tune on his Irish tenor banjo.

Qristina & Quinn have performed across Canada, from Vancouver Island to Cape Breton Island - at such varied venues as the Rankin Family owned Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, Cape Breton, the Commodre Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C. and Toronto's Berkelee Church. Qristina & Quinn have also performed at folk festivals in Canada and Europe including the Vancouver Island Music Fest, the Islands Folk Festival, the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, Speyfest (Scotland) and the Feakle Traditional Music Festival (Ireland).

In July 2008 Qristina and Quinn Bachand released their self-produced full length debut CD, "RELATIVE MINORS" which features 16 tracks and over 45 traditional and original tunes.  For a sample of their CD Release Concert:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=FonOPspInJM

EXCITING NEWS UPDATES!

Qristina & Quinn have just been confirmed to perform at the 2009 Celtic Colours International Festival in Cape Breton this Fall.  They'll be doing three shows, on October 10th, 11th and 12th, plus they'll also be part of Ashley MacIsaac's shows.

On June 9th we'll be recording an interview for Celtic Music Radio which is a community radio station serving Glasgow, Scotland on 1530 AM and the world via the internet on www.celticmusicradio.net. Celtic Music Radio is the UK's only radio station dedicated to Celtic music 24 hrs. a day!  Celtic Music Radio is including "Relative Minors" in their Album of the Week feature.  Tracks from the album will be featured, one per hour over the week!  We'll let you know when we're going to be "on air".

Further to our CD "Relative Minors", we are pleased to say that it's doing very well and getting lots of radio play across Canada, in parts of the US, and even in France and the UK.   The album is doing so well, in fact, that we're going to do another pressing of 1,000 copies as we are down to our last few boxes.  We're also considering recording another album, but time has been scarce, so it'll have to wait for now, but we're hoping to have a new album in 2010!   Help us get "Relative Minors" heard ALL across Canada, call in to your local radio stations and ask them to play tracks off the CD!

On June 16th Qristina leaves for Amsterdam where she'll be teaching fiddle workshops and performing (without Quinn).  Quinn has a few gigs lined up for June and early July with various musicians including Tyler Carson & Blake Ritter.  On July 7th Quinn will be having minor surgery to remove a ganglion on his right wrist. Scheduling this surgery so it wouldn't conflict with his busy gig schedule was tricky...

On August 4th we're flying to Edmonton.  Quinn will be accompanying Ashley MacIsaac at the Edmonton Folk Festival.  We're all super excited about this and Quinn is really looking forward to playing with Ashley again.

On August 10th we fly from Edmonton to Dublin ; we're meeting up wth Qristina in Doolin.  She'll have been there about a week, representing us at the Feakle Music Festival.  Qristina & Quinn have gigs lined up around Co. Clare, Doolin, Galway... and a showcase performance in Tullamore on August 20th during the Fleadh (All Irelands Championships).

Thanks for sharing in our excitement!  We'll stay in touch.

Musically yours,

QRISTINA & QUINN BACHAND

"Qristina & Quinn beautifully blend traditional Celtic stylings on 16 tracks that also feature a sprinkling of original tunes including several they themselves wrote. " — Patrick Blennerhassett, Victoria News

"Their playing displays a great depth of emotional range, from tragic & plaintive to high-spirited and fiery!" — Lisa Szeker-Madden, Focus Magazine

"With the sparkling lilt in Qristina's fiddling & the solid accompaniment of her brother Quinn's guitar, you'd be forgiven for thinking the Victoria, BC, siblings grew up playing Celtic music from the time they first cracked open their eyes. " — Sandy MacDonald, Penguin Eggs
